Teachers
We have an Administrative Director who keeps in close contact with the teachers and Board, who takes care of all registration matters and the general on site, daily running of the school. We've an exceptional staff of ten dedicated teachers. Most have been with us for more than a decade. Not only are they patient, loving, caring, and nurturing of all the children in their care, they're highly skilled professionals with the training and experience to carefully attend to each child's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
- Our teachers are professionals: All meet, and most far exceed, state requirements for fully qualified pre-school teachers. Most have B.A. or M.A. degrees in early childhood education or related areas, and all adhere to the standards of appropriate practices outlined by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
- Our teachers are experienced: Each has taught for 1 to 20 years at Friends, with additional experience elsewhere. They are experts in dealing with children singularly or in groups, while never forgetting to cherish and revel in the uniqueness of each one.
- Our teachers are committed to excellent parent/teacher communication: The teachers at Friends work hard to convey their knowledge of each child clearly to his or her parents. In-depth parent-teacher conferences are held mid-year, and teachers are happy to meet at other times should the need arise. Teachers are always available at drop-off and pick-up times for impromptu chats about a child's day, and by phone before class
One teacher in each program serves as Program Director, but all share teaching responsibilities and have equal status in preparing curriculum and making choices for their classrooms. They are committed to creating an environment that is safe and nurturing for all children, and providing curriculum that is varied, stimulating, age appropriate, multi-faceted, and rich in learning opportunities.
